Map-N-Hike Geospatial Services

Geospatial Services

Map-N-Hike provides organizations with geographic information and digital mapping solutions using the latest technology available. We research, compile, and review data from public and proprietary sources. Document data workflows, data sources, and data limitations (i.e. scale, accuracy) and prepare data for use in modeling, data workflows, and web mapping. We perform data analyses and computation using Esri’s GIS platform to delivery your geospatial projects.

We provide custom mapping and geospatial services to a wide range of industries, utilizing the latest software, datasets, and imagery. Our staff work efficiently to deliver products and services to meet your needs. We have experience working with many different types of industries including:

  • Real Estate
  • Insurance
  • Urban Planning / Land Use
  • Environmental Science
  • Marketing/Advertising
  • Outdoor Recreation
  • Local/County/State Government

Looking for examples of previous work and/or samples for your next project? We have provided a few samples below and created a portfolio illustrating several projects that have incorporated data creation, data conversion, online mapping and spatial analysis projects. Like to see other types of work? Contact Us and we can provide examples of projects that are similar to your individual or organizational needs.

Data Creation

Data creation include the following workflows which allow extraction in digital form of real world data to be used for analysis and visualization.

  • Geo-Referencing
  • Digitizing
  • GPS data integration
  • Coordinate data import
  • Attribute data import
  • Spatial Join
  • Raster To Vector
  • Vector To Raster

Important Geo-spatial information is contained in a wide variety of maps available in the form of images and CAD data. The conventional approach is to manually extract data and store it in digital format. Map-N-Hike can scan maps, geo-reference and assign real world coordinates and convert images into valuable geo-spatial information. See our most recent project underway.

Data Conversion

Below are just a few of the different types of data that can be converted to fit your business requirements. Import and Export the following:

  • Excel
  • WFS to Feature
  • GPX to Feature
  • JSON to Feature
  • KML
  • Geodatabase
  • CAD
  • Shapefile

We are well versed in projecting vector and raster data from one coordinate space to another . See our overview of coordinate systems and graticules and grids that illustrate the process and workflow associated with transforming your data .

Online Mapping

We utilize tools such as ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online for preparing data for use with our web mapping projects . If you require and online presentation of your data let us know. We will help you scope out your needs and identify the appropriate technology. Collaborative mapping solutions available.

  • Map Editing and Sharing

Spatial Analysis

Spatial analyses allows us to solve location oriented problems and better understand where and what is occurring in our world. View our article on mapping crime data to illustrate just one of the many ways in which spatial analysis is used to help understand our world.

  • How much crime is there in New Hampshire?
  • What kinds of crime are the most and least common?
  • What variables help explain the increase in crime rates?

Web Mapping Samples

Wildfires raged through Glacier National Park in Montana in 2015. Swipe tool illustrates Landsat imagery taken in 2014 (Before) and 2015 (After). Smoke depicted is from the Thompson Fire, which was still burning when the image was collected. Imagery of all types collected at different times is a great way to detect change.

Custom Mapping: Choose the data layers, determine the scale and area, add titles and labeling, while defining the page size and layout. Our process begins with client consultation and extensive research followed by design and data overlay before final production and exporting to PDF files. As an option we also can provide you with vectorized files (Adobe Illustrator or Encapsulated Post Script) files for easy editing.

Our business is located in the great state of New Hampshire. When we are not “Mapping” we are “Hiking”! A business name that represents the two areas in which we spend most of our time. We our passionate about mapping and the great outdoors!

Gearing up to start and finish a GIS project can be a very expensive endeavor. Many organizations try, only to run into road blocks caused by schedules, budgets, or difficulties finding the right people. Map-N-Hike can help with our flexible Rent-a-Tech service. Whether you have a specific project or need on-call assistance, we can provide experienced GIS staff to perform a wide range of GIS-related tasks (onsite or remotely) based on your specific needs and budget. We can assist with data maintenance, analysis, map creation, application development, software installation and configuration, database design and more. Don’t have any GIS staff? Through this service, Map-N-Hike can function as your organization’s GIS Department.

The two kinds of transformations are geographic and vertical. The geographic (horizontal) one is shifting between the two GCS’s. You may have to do a vertical transformation at the same time, which is shifting between some ellipsoidal or geoidal view. A particular transformation goes from one GCS to another GCS.

Every project is unique and requires meeting with our clients and asking questions about their request. The questions allow us to discern what types of data will be required, how to the data will be formatted and the output will be delivered. All initial consultations are no charge until after both parties agree on deliverables. If you are not sure of how to approach your project and simply would like ideas on how to generate a certain output, contact us and let us know.

Custom Mapping Considerations

  1. The size of the map (paper size) e.g. 8 1/2 x 11
  2. The size of the extent (map view)
  3. The scale of the map view e.g. 1:24,000 | 1″ = 2,000 ft
  4. The data sources (USGS, USDA, State, County, Local, Private)
  5. Budget

The extent and scale will determine the size of the output. The availability of data sources and time required to collect, model, store, and prepare the data determine the project time. Some projects require a compromise between any one of the five variables listed above. Before submitting a request take a moment to document who the map is for and how it will be used and note the 5 criteria above that will be required to generate your custom map. We may recommend going with a stock map to meet the project requirements, due to restraints from any of the five items listed above with budget be the primary reason to determine the feasibility of the project.

This is determined after the initial meeting with our clients so we can get an idea of the type of project and make certain we have all the data necessary to execute the clients requirements. Once we have the information for the project we can give the client and estimated time of delivery. Depending on the project length, we also provide status updates and examples of how the project is progressing.

Simply contact us to setup a meeting. Our contact information can be found here

Depending on the project requirements will determine the hourly rate. Hourly rates range from $40 – $85 an hour. For example, if the project is geared towards a GIS Technician the hourly range will begin at $40 and if the project is more inline with a GIS Analyst or Developer, the hourly rate will either $65 to $85 respectively. Once the initial project requirements and deliverables have been agreed to, the total cost of the project can be determined.

Yes, we do offer payment plans. Contact us for more information
